According to a message in a bottle, Pirate Jack can't find his treasure. Pirate Ruby (the good) and Pirate Hamish (the wicked) are determined to help Jack - for very different reasons. But it seems that Pirate Jack is always drawing maps in an effort to remind himself of many things - and not always about treasure. Can Pirate Ruby help Pirate Jack find his way before the dreadful Hamish steals everything not nailed down?

This charming story, divided into three short chapters, is another success in the ‘Walker Stories' series - books for readers just making the jump from picture books into novels. Although in black and white, Pamela Allen's illustrations are delightfully expressive and provide plenty of visual story cues to hesitant readers, as well as emphasizing the personalities of the characters.  Jan Stradling is an experienced teacher and producer of children's television and understands that a simple story well told always appeals.

Gifted children vary a lot. Some are great at sports. Some have disabilities. Children can be gifted or not along one or more of a large number of dimensions. Labels like "gifted" need to be used carefully as all children are different.
