Our Goals 2010-2011

Our initial goals as planned in November 2010 are to build a membership base that is broad and diverse, and that includes parents and families from across NSW. It is planned to do this in two clear ways:

Our Website as a first port of call:

· Interactive; handles processes such as event registration, membership renewal; book orders; other purchasing options.

· Includes blogs and forums that connect members from across NSW and the ACT; includes journal for those who select the online option. Includes section for young people.

· Provides advice, support, information. Advertises events, includes links to other relevant sites and activities.

· Supported by committee, paid staff and support group members who contribute and create material.

· Is the first port of call for families and educators seeking information about giftedness.

Events

· Regular children workshops in variety of locations, arranged by events coordinator but supported by local support groups and/or committee members for administration and implementation. (3 month)

· Regular parent/adult workshops in variety of locations; utilising varied presenters as suggested by committee or parent members; or discovered by events coordinator. Include sale of resource material and building of networks.

 · Playgroups run informally in range of locations.

 · 3 major events that have an outcome beyond the participants: 2E forum; Early Childhood conference, Youth activity.

It is also important that we are a voice in the communoty for our members and those who need support. We plan to do this over a longerperiod of time, by building paretnerships and advocating for gifted children and families.

Partnerships to offer opportunity for the building of voice and presence in the community.

 · Connections with GERRIC : information, family support, presence at workshops.

 · Connections with resources for parents: toys, books, equipment

 · Library : utilisation of public library network to allow families across NSW and the ACT to access our books

 · Links to educational/relevant groups who serve families as well: P&C; teacher associations, GATSTA, homeschooling, MENSA, ECA

 · Big events/conferences: with other groups who can provide

 · Local support groups run events and serve their local area with support.

Advocacy to ensure there is a voice and presence in the community representing gifted families and children.

Join with other groups to examine issues for gifted children: review the Senate review; research educational options; investigate provision; develop programs; evaluate programs eg universities, DET, CEO, state associations, AAEGT.

 · Enable parents to have the skills to communicate with their schools and teachers.

 · Enable local support groups to act in their local community.

 · Lobby education agencies about education policy and practice.
