Central Coast (Gosford)

The Central Coast Gifted and Talented Support Group - (CCGATSG)  is a new social support group for families with Gifted Children aged 0 to 14 years living in the Central Coast area - all welcome! The benefits of meeting up with other families with Gifted Children are numerous - your children get to socialise with "like minds" and, as parents you are able to share and learn from each others' experiences.

We are looking at holding quarterly picnics, a coffee club for parents and regular social outings for the children.  We also have a newly established yahoo group that you are more than welcome to join, just email me below:-

Next Date: Friday 1st July, 1-3:30pm

Venue: DUE TO RAIN now at GOSFORD RSL CLUB same time.

The Central Coast Group is also hoping to establish training on the Central Coast for teachers, educators and parents along with workshops for children of various ages and abilities.  As we are newly established, we would appreciate if you would email us to let us know what you are interested in so we can cater the workshops to the needs of the Central Coast families and educators.

Please continue to return to the website regularly.  We will be posting on this site the exciting events and outings that we arrange.  The online forum has commenced for financial members so please join me.

Hi,

We have just found out our 3.5 year old son is very superior in the gifted category! We are struggling with his behaviour and are looking for advice, support etc. We are living in Tea Gardens so are somewhat isolated!

Regards

Simone

Hi Simone, Thanks for your post. Yes, there is social isolation because of our children's giftedness and then there is plain old isolation because of the area you live in. There are a few yahoo groups and forums and more being set up on the NSWAGTC website. These will offer support and advice to you. Our website does have a lot of information to help with issues such as emotional intensity and advocating for your child at school. Long Term, as the events co-ordinator, I plan to run regular events at Newcastle - the first being school holiday workshops on Wed 14 July 2010. This would give your family an opportunity to meet other gifted kids and their parents. From this day I hope a group of you can meet and form a supportgroup.

Hi Ange

Have you had any success i finding help/support?

I am currently looking at starting a support group in the Newcastle/Maitland area. I attended a seminar last week in Sydney and met another family in the Newcastle region. We have exchanged phone numbers and are keen to begin organising 'play dates'. Would you be interested in coming along?

Regards

Did you know?

NSWAGTC Support Groups

THE NSWAGTC has a number of support groups across NSW and the ACT. The support groups may organise activities for gifted children and/or run a program for parents and teachers depending on the perceived needs of the geographical area or special interest need. Support groups can be a useful first point of contact for those new to the demands of giftedness.

We also have a number of support contacts (members who have volunteered to share their knowledge and experience with other parents or teachers of gifted children) in areas across NSW. Contact the NSWAGTC office for details of your closest support contact, or if you are interested in finding out about establishing a group in your area. Most groups are organised by ordinary parents with an interest in "doing something" to meet the needs of their children and the Association can provide assistance in getting things started.
