Looking for IGGY Junior Commissioners

Gifted News

IGGY, the International Gateway for Gifted Youth, is looking for ten young people aged 11-18 to become members of the next IGGY Junior Commission.

The Junior Commission gives young people the chance to work with an international group of peers to put forward answers to some of the most pressing problems facing the world today. The Commissioners will work with each other, guided by leading academics, on a year-long research project themed around the environment and sustainability.

IGGY gives the Commissioners the chance to put across new and challenging perspectives on issues - those of young global citizens. We're not interested in regurgitating existing arguments or proposals - the Junior Commission gives young people the chance to bring their personal background and experiences to a global concern.

In October 2009, IGGY ran an event for our members from the townships of Johannesburg, where we asked them to reflect on the challenges they, their community and their country face in relation to climate change. We used their work to formulate a competition to identify our Junior Commissioners. To become a Junior Commissioner, you should create and submit to IGGY a piece of work that answers the following question.

"In light of the perceived failure of the Copenhagen summit, do you think that complacency remains in your country about climate change? What influences this?"

To find out more information, including how to enter, please visit our website at http://www.warwick.ac.uk/go/iggyjuniorcommission. The closing date for entries is 30 November 2010.

IGGY, run by the University of Warwick in the UK, is an international network of the brightest and most creative young people aged 11-19.

Did you know?

Nothing contributes so much to tranquilizing the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.
