"Lisa"

"Lisa", aged 11 years 10 months, is a Grade Six student. Her intellectual potential has been assessed as being in the top five per cent. Like Julian, Lisa has had a normal progression through her educational life.

What are your favourite subject(s), sports and hobbies?

I like Maths, Arts and Science. I like to draw. I like playing basketball. I do read a lot.

What do you think of school and school work?

Well, it's okay and I learn a lot. Yeah, it's not bad. School work is not too hard but it's not always easy. I don't mind coming to school but sometimes, it's nice when you don't have to come.

What makes you happy at school?

When I learn something new at school. Like, when you've been told there's something you can't do and you finally learn how to do it. That makes me happy. I like having my friends around because it's easier working with them sometimes.

How do you spend your after-school hours and weekends?

On the weekends, I go bowling because I'm in the league. I like to read and have to do my homework. I do like the TV. I like going on the computer. I have to ask for permission to go on the Internet.

I am good at ...

Reading, writing and probably Maths which I find pretty easy. Yeah, I like driving my mum crazy, and I'm good at being a pain to my parents. And annoying my sister.

I am happiest when ...

Probably when I'm with my friends or when I've just read a really good book.

I am special because ...

I'm different because everyone's different. Yeah, and I've got talents and everything.

When I grow up, I want to be ...

An archaeologist because it's like finding fossils, buried bones and that sort of things. Or maybe an actress.

Recorded by Pheobe Fong-Smith - the name of the child has been changed to preserve anonymity.
