Some changes to the site...

In the time since I have last written here, there have been some changes - let me tell you about them.Firstly there is now an online forum available for members to use - though it is still in its infancy. You need to be logged in to see the Forum menu option. You will find a couple of support group forums there at present as well as a Welcome Mat where anyone can say hello - probably in time there will be somt topic focused general discussion forums as well. Remember that any contribution you make will have your username linked to it, so either choose an anonymous user name or don't contribute anything that may have repercussions now or in the future.
Secondly the site search function has changed to a more advanced engine. The most immediate advantage is that it is now possible to search through subsets of our site content, such as just the Reviews section - (use the Search Reviews menu option to find a great book) or just the Links Library.
Thirdly - though not quite in place yet - is a Labels or Tag system that allows authors to tag their items with useful keywords. This can help you find related items and also helps the site search function be more useful. It may be particularly valuable in the Reviews collection to help you find a book of the right genre and covering the right issues.
Fourthly we are using a project management tool on the website to manage a number of collaborative projects. This is proving useful though of course has its learning curve. When you are logged in you will be able to see some limited information about the projects - and should you be interested in being involved you should be able to submit a join request.
And perhaps most importantly I now have a colleague helping me with the administration and development of the site. Christina Martin has voluntarily stepped into this role and brings a range of useful skills. Thank you Christina.
Let me know if you have any questions - David.

Did you know?
Gifted children vary a lot. Some are great at sports. Some have disabilities. Children can be gifted or not along one or more of a large number of dimensions. Labels like "gifted" need to be used carefully as all children are different. |
NSWAGTC Blogs
The blogs appearing on the NSWAGTC site are designed to provide colour, news and subjective views about the many issues and concerns facing gifted children and their parents, care-givers and educators. Some of the blogs are associated with formal roles of the NSWAGTC, such as the President and the Webmaster. These allow the persons filling these roles to note to members any current news and changes. Other NSWAGTC blogs are written by individuals with experience of gifted children from one or more perspectives - for example Cate's Blog is from the viewpoint of a primary school teacher and parent of gifted children. These blogs are written solely by the person identified and represent his or her views, rather than necessarily those of the NSWAGTC. Comments are invited We invite comments on our blog entries, by both financial members and registered users (free). Click here to register. Comments may be reviewed and those considered inappropriate will be deleted. New blogs? We would also be delighted to consider applications from potential bloggers provided that the applicant accepts that this will be subject to a review process and may well be declined for any number of reasons which may not be shared with the applicant. Applications, which should include a resume and a vision for the potential blog, and suggestions for new blogs, can be sent in the first instance to the webmaster. |
