A New year - planning and setting goals
Tuesday, 14 July 2009 21:29
Only two weeks after our AGM our new committee met on Saturday to plan, set goals and start the work we will do this year for the Association. We have a diverse committee - it was exciting to work with others whose experiences have all been different but who all have a passion for making life for our gifted children and their families a little easier.
We talked about the vision of the Association and where we want to make a difference in the next 12 months. We shared conversation with Cate, the editor of Gifted, and talked about how to ensure our journal addresses the needs of all our members. We also talked about our website and ways to make it an integral part of our everyday business.
Later this year we share the celebration of our 30th birthday at the Gifted Challenge conference, held in partnership with the University of Western Sydney. This will be a chance to share a range of presentations with teachers, educators and parents, and be an exciting opportunity to meet with others interested in gifted education. We hope that many of you will be able to share with us.
In early August I am off to Vancouver to the World Council of Giftedness conference. There I will hear some of the current research and ideas being undertaken around the world. Mimi is also going, as well as a number of Australian representatives. I am sure we will have many ideas to share on our return.
Keep watching our website as it evolves over the next little while. We hope that it will keep you connected to the Association and offer a number of features for our members - chances to keep in contact.
For now, Denise.

which gave me a better understanding of the needs of gifted children and how
best we can nurture their strengths, skills and habits." An educator attending a NSWAGTC seminar. |
NSWAGTC Blogs
The blogs appearing on the NSWAGTC site are designed to provide colour, news and subjective views about the many issues and concerns facing gifted children and their parents, care-givers and educators. Some of the blogs are associated with formal roles of the NSWAGTC, such as the President and the Webmaster. These allow the persons filling these roles to note to members any current news and changes. Other NSWAGTC blogs are written by individuals with experience of gifted children from one or more perspectives - for example Cate's Blog is from the viewpoint of a primary school teacher and parent of gifted children. These blogs are written solely by the person identified and represent his or her views, rather than necessarily those of the NSWAGTC. Comments are invited We invite comments on our blog entries, by both financial members and registered users (free). Click here to register. Comments may be reviewed and those considered inappropriate will be deleted. New blogs? We would also be delighted to consider applications from potential bloggers provided that the applicant accepts that this will be subject to a review process and may well be declined for any number of reasons which may not be shared with the applicant. Applications, which should include a resume and a vision for the potential blog, and suggestions for new blogs, can be sent in the first instance to the webmaster. |
