Current News from the Committee

At our committee meeting last Saturday we spent a long time talking about the different prongs of the Association: supporting parents with advice and information; providing enrichment activities for children; supporting our educators in developing their understandings of the needs of gifted children and our representative groups - support groups - around the state. Each of these is vital in our association and we are always looking for ways to build each prong.

Support groups are run by local members in many regions in NSW. We applaud the work of these members, who organise meetings, events and provide 'on the spot' support for families and parents. Over the next few months we will  be making contact with all our support groups- to find out what they are doing, and what they need from the committee. We talked about ensuring regular attenders at a local level know about the Association - and its library, support services and book sales. I hope to be able to report back to you about our support groups in the next little while.
We are also looking at how we can best support and inform those involved in the education of our children:  teachers, school counsellors, school leaders and groups - through workshops and information. Coming up in November will be our conference in partnership with the University of Western Sydney - watch for details on this site. It is a chance to meet, to 'show and tell and to find out the latest in research and strategies for gifted children. The call for papers came out at our Gagne seminar - if you know of someone who has something to tell about school programmes please let them know!
The more we talk out loud about our gifted children- their highs and lows, their passions and their learning - the more we let the community know how amazing it is to be in the company of gifted children - how inspiring and exciting they are, and how much they have to teach us.
Until next time,
Denise

"I learnt so much about gifted children, backed up by very interesting research which gave me a better understanding of the needs of gifted children and how best we can nurture their strengths, skills and habits." An educator attending a NSWAGTC seminar.

NSWAGTC Blogs

The blogs appearing on the NSWAGTC site are designed to provide colour, news and subjective views about the many issues and concerns facing gifted children and their parents, care-givers and educators.

Some of the blogs are associated with formal roles of the NSWAGTC, such as the President and the Webmaster. These allow the persons filling these roles to note to members any current news and changes.

Other NSWAGTC blogs are written by individuals with experience of gifted children from one or more perspectives - for example Cate's Blog is from the viewpoint of a primary school teacher and parent of gifted children. These blogs are written solely by the person identified and represent his or her views, rather than necessarily those of the NSWAGTC.

Comments are invited

We invite comments on our blog entries, by both financial members and registered users (free). Click here to register. Comments may be reviewed and those considered inappropriate will be deleted.

New blogs?

We would also be delighted to consider applications from potential bloggers provided that the applicant accepts that this will be subject to a review process and may well be declined for any number of reasons which may not be shared with the applicant. Applications, which should include a resume and a vision for the potential blog, and suggestions for new blogs, can be sent in the first instance to the webmaster.
