The NSWAGTC's goals

Describes the goals that drive the association

THE ASSOCIATION is dedicated to improving the position of gifted and talented children and to assist their parents, teachers and other care-givers.

Membership of the Association is open to all interested individuals, groups and institutions. Financial hardship is taken into account in regard to reduction in or exemption from membership fees and charges for services.

The Association's goals include:

Counselling
  • to ensure assistance and counselling for gifted and talented children, their parents, their teachers and other carers, is available to aid them in the resolution of the difficulties they may experience.
  • to provide opportunities for gifted and talented children, their parents and their teachers to meet and discuss their mutual problems in a supportive atmosphere.
Awareness and Information
  • to promote through publications and other means the full awareness of parents, teachers and general community of the special needs of gifted and talented children.
  • to promote through publications and other means the full awareness of parents, teachers and the general community of the available facilities and programs to meet these needs and to highlight and seek to rectify any shortfalls in these facilities and programs.
Identification
  • to promote strategies for parents, teachers and others to identify gifted and talented children, with particular emphasis on those who may be underachieving, and including the female, aboriginal, multicultural, physically-handicapped and learning-disabled groups.
Teacher Training
  • to promote appropriate training of all teachers (both pre-service and ongoing) in the education of gifted and talented children.
Appropriate Schooling
  • to promote flexibility in school programs at all levels to ensure gifted and talented children are provided with schooling opportunities at the pace and level appropriate to their abilities and stages of development.
Activities and Camps
  • to provide supplementary educational and social experiences for gifted and talented children as appropriate.

 

Groups
  • to promote the establishment of local and regional groups throughout NSW and the ACT so that the immediate needs of their local gifted and talented communities can be met.
