Thought Provokers
Vision Statement
The Albury Wodonga Support Group's vision is to build a community where:
- Gifted children are accepted and these children are encouraged to
feel proud of their
gifts.
- They are appropriately challenged to excel to a level which realises
their full potential.
- Where parents are confident and informed in their
relationship with their children and their schools.
Goals
- To assist the members to find the best and most appropriate school
programs for their children.
- To provide activities which will allow
member's children
to develop their talents and form productive and supportive relationships with
peers and adults.
- To continually extend invitations to any parents of gifted
children, to attend the meetings without coercing them to become members.
- To
keep members informed about the latest educational research and school
programs available.
- To embrace an open definition of "giftedness" as
including children who display talents such as music, sport leadership,
art, trades and technology,
as well as the traditional academic areas.
- To embrace I.Q. and educational
psychology tests as a useful means of identifying gifted students,
but by no means mandatory. A child displaying advanced skills beyond
that normally expected
of their year level is sufficient evidence of their "giftedness".
- To
raise the community awareness of gifted children's needs and issues.
- To
work with schools and teachers by advocating on behalf of our members'
children.
- To provide
child minding at all regular meetings.
- To permit children to attend
any meetings and activities.
